The Marketing Club

Creating a community for marketers in New Zealand and Australia

The Marketing Club (TMC) have created a community for marketers in New Zealand and Australia that has grown at speed. At the time of filming TMC had 16,000 followers but this has grown to over 18,000 in the short time between filming and posting this video.

The force behind this growth stems from the unrelenting passion of founder Chanel Clark who sat down with Robert Scott to tell her story. We were fortunate to get Chanel in studio the morning after Marketers Day in Auckland on the 22nd May 2026. The day before that Chanel had been at the same sell-out Australian Marketers Day in Sydney.

To say Chanel is dedicated to the marketing community she’s founded is an understatement and this dedication to getting the message of TMC out there came through in this interview – even if it was at the end of a hectic event schedule.

Robert’s first question is whether TMC are a polished bunch that Chanel easily dismisses – “We couldn‘t be if we tried” is the simple reply in a nod to Chanel’s own attitude towards creating a community around the reality of marketing rather than the precisely manufactured façade that usually gets presented.

Chanel never expected TMC to grow to what it is today. It was originally a coffee meet up for 30 marketers so a focus on brand guidelines or a tone of voice, that are often the cornerstones of marketing, weren’t a priority.

Chanel doesn’t believe the reality of marketing has changed. The goals are the same it’s simply the fragmentation of audiences in an online and AI world that have led to increasing demands on marketers to be across all the new tools required to reach these goals.

All this pressure on marketers has been a key reason why TMC has been so successful “(This) has been fabulous for us because I build a community for every marketer that feels overwhelmed”

With the growth of TMC this pressure has also been on Chanel to create great events for marketers at every stage of their career. Events that show “what good looks like”. These events are all about getting marketers away from their screens so they can be part of a real community with real connections. Monthly Dinner Clubs, Bi-monthly Social Networking Events and Quarterly Educational Events are all in-person so you have to be in the room to be part of the experience.

Being in the room means you get “that big purple hug from our community” which is what TMC is all about and something Chanel is proud to be building with the support of dozens of volunteers in both New Zealand and Australia.
