Better Eggs
Better for Hens, Better for Families, Better for Community, Better for our Environment
“Are you better eggs or the best eggs?” When Gareth van der Hayden was asked this by Trudi Nelson his response was surprising
“We’re Better Eggs”
His response was based more on drive than modesty.
A drive to be better and never assume the team at Better Eggs have reached their destination.
A drive to be “better for our hens, better for our families and better for our environment”
Better Eggs is a Kiwi Owned and operated egg producer founded way back in 1937 and CEO Gareth van der Heyden is the third generation in his family to look after the company.
Gareth jokes around about looking “a bit like an egg” but when he gets down to it the passion for what he and the team at Better Eggs do is easy to see.
This passion starts with their care for the hens, or the girls as they call them and caring for the communities that Better Eggs is part of especially South Waikato, Wairarapa and the Bay of Plenty region.
For Better Eggs caring for their hens involves going above and beyond the standards required and Gareth believes they have the strongest animal welfare credentials in the country.
Care in the community not only means supporting 250 staff and looking after others in the community they operate in but also looking after the local environmental with initiatives like planting over 100,000 trees for the hens to run through each day.
Gareth has the egg of 50-years in mind and even though eggs are already natures perfect protein package the way the team farm the eggs and look after the local environment is something they’re constantly improving on and setting the company up for generations to come.
